24th March of every year commemorates the day in 1882 when Dr. Robert Koch announced his discovery of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the germ that causes Tuberculosis. Each year, HIFASS in partnership with government institutions, health workers and other stakeholders come together to evaluate the TB fight and advocate to governments at all levels on expected interventions that can help reach more people with awareness and treatment.

On 24th March 2018, the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme (NTBLCP) in collaboration with other government institutions and NGOs commemorated the day with a road show/walk in Abuja from Wuse market to Utako market. The show/walk is meant to raise public awareness about Tuberculosis. It was the last of the week-long series of activities and participants came in different eye-catching and branded T-shirts, distributing IEC materials to passers-by and by-standers, sensitizing them about the disease. World TB Day provides the opportunity to shine the spotlight on the disease. It gives us an opportunity to evaluate our past successes and failures while mobilizing political and social commitment for accelerate progress to end TB.
